Thank you to everyone who submitted a video for the End Ecocide in Europe competition. We received some amazing videos, that really show the dedication and passion of so many people from around the world to ending Ecocide. You can see them on our channel here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCR5Wi1chr_HeDwPGc_s_xXg
The winner of our competition is Geert Kazemier with his film ‘Tiger’. The Tiger is a beautiful animation that juxtaposes beautifully simple imagery with the hard reality of ecological destruction with impressive impact. On hearing the news Geert said:
We, my brother and I, are students from the Netherlands. We are 18 and 20 years old and make videos for our hobby. We’re still young and we hope to enjoy the beautiful nature around. That’s why we think this is a great initiative and really want to support it with our creativity.”
The runners up to the competition were Markus Schinnerl with ‘The Ecocide of John S. Watson’ (currently not imprisoned), ‘Support that Girl’ by Markus Schinnerl as well  and ‘Money Above Nature!’ by Kasper de Zoete (who is only 16, amazing!!).
The struggle to create this law is far from over. We continue to collect signatures which will be handed in as petition to the European Parliament together with the votes collected for the European initiative so far. For this, only name, nationality and email address are required, so hopefully many more will be willing to sign now. We also published a charter  on January 30th, calling for the establishment of a European and an International Criminal Court of the Environment. This charter is the result of a newly formed coalition of organisations advocating for the recognition of environmental crimes. End Ecocide in Europe is very proud to be among the initiating organisations.
End Ecocide will continue to seek interesting ways to communicate our message. If you would like to know more or if you have a creative way to spread the idea please get in touch!!
